A Unique Modern Coffee Table

The Stroma coffee table is just like the larger dining table it shares its name with – just a little smaller.  This modern coffee table is also a stainless steel framed table which supports a natural timber top.  It’s a design which is close to our hearts, and it’s one which encapsulates our philosophies.

This modern coffee table is all about precision and understanding the properties of inherent in its two main materials.  Stainless steel and hardwood.

The under-frame is made using flat, thin, stainless steel bar.  This otherwise quite plain raw material is totally transformed and gives this coffee table its contemporary look.  Due to the multi layering of the flat steel, the framework becomes very strong.  This layering feature not only provides inherent cross-bracing, but is also  aesthetically eye catching.  It provides a very interesting and elegant overall look that will capture people’s attention.

This modern coffee table also incorporates a solid hardwood top.  This provides an overall softening element to the piece and contrasts beautifully with the minimalistic under frame.  The earthy tone provided by the wood beautifully complements the brushed stainless steel and provides a very refined look.

The layering design element embedded in this table also helps to bring the two different materials together in an effective and complimentary manner.  This is not easy to do.  In fact, the top often appears to be unattached to the under frame.  This provides intrigue and keeps people looking at it.  What more could you ask of a design?

The Name: Stroma

As is our custom here are PodMarket® the name of this modern coffee table also has a hidden meaning.  Stroma is the Greek word for stratum, which refers to ‘a layer or a series of layers into which something is separated’.  We feel that this is a great name for such a multi-layered, cross-bracing design.  A stainless steel and wood table + cross bracing layering elements + ‘floating’ top??  We think this meets the ‘stratum’ definition well.
