More than a modern bedside table

The Kobei Low is incredibly versatile and adaptable.  Undoubtedly one of the best modern bedside tables available today.  But it is so much more.  It’s a stylish side table as well as a low chest of drawers.  It’s also an unobtrusive storage unit that can live as comfortably in the lounge or study/office as it can in the bedroom.  The choice is yours.  The Kobei will deliver.

Modern meets tradition

The Kobei Low is a contemporary piece.  Modern bedside tables et al, never looked so good.  But as contemporary as it is, the entire Kobei drawer series utilises a very old, rarely used, European cabinet making technique.   Each drawer operate without mechanical runners.  Instead they open and close based on a very effective and efficient ‘old school’ concept.  They move using an integrated central running system which provides lateral (left + right) guidance.  This clever methodology allows the drawer to be 100% visible throughout its full range of motion.

Why hide things?

The unique way of opening + closing the drawers, allows the entire drawer to be on display all the time.  There’s no need to do the normal thing – which is to hide the drawers within an all enclosing carcase.  These modern bedside tables operate so beautifully that we decided to have every working part on full display.  Just like inner workings of a high end, mechanical Swiss watch.

Hence, the open framework effectively becomes the visual highlight itself.  The drawers are actually secondary, which is most unusual for modern bedside tables.  This provides intrigue and lightness to the overall form.  And it also allows the piece to function just as effectively as a side table, or storage unit.

Choices, choices…

Fist choice.  Here, we construct the drawers in a contemporary manner.  Modern bedside tables with modern drawer construction if you will.  We do also offer a version with the ultimate in furniture craftsmanship – fully dovetailed drawers.  This provides a very different feel to the overall piece.  It’s simply a matter of choice.  Some people like to see the dovetails on the corners of each drawer, whilst others prefer the more minimalist, uncluttered look. There is no right answer.  It’s all about what’s right for you!

Second choice.  We now also offer the Kobei Low with an option of being available with one or two drawers.  Often, this will be determined based on what you purchase the Kobei for.  Will it act purely as a modern bedside table?  If so, it makes sense to have both drawers available for storage options.  However, if you’d rather use the Kobei as a special side table in the lounge area, you might prefer to make it visually ‘lighter’ and only go for the single drawer option.  For office storage, once again, a pair of drawers makes perfect sense.

Third choice.  We now offer a range of timbers too.  Do you want a contrasting frame colour to that of the drawers, or do you want them all the same?  Do you want browns or blacks?  It’s all about getting the result you desire.

The good news is that the Kobei Low is so beautiful, versatile and functional that you really can’t mess up your mixing and matching anyway!  The outcome will always be elegant and useful!
