What are we referring to? The modern designer day bed!  Plain and simple.

Day beds (or daybeds if you prefer) are not new of course.  But ones that are functional, beautiful and durable are as rare as hens teeth in our opinion.

In days gone day beds have really been after-thoughts. They would typically be “fitted” pieces often made by the builders during the construction of the house.  You would commonly find the day beds tucked in between 2 nook walls, or right in front of that weird space by a bay window.  Fair enough, but these spaces were (and still are) typically quite pokey.  This results in small-ish type day beds which in reality are more often suited to be used as pseudo storage cabinets as opposed to places to sit, read, work or heaven forbid, lie down and shut your eyes.  That’s why the builders would end up whacking some doors or drawers beneath the flimsy cushion.  That way the thing would at least get used for something!

A day bed for today

We’ve made it our business to fix this.  Why?  Because we think that with the right considerations and design abilities that day beds can (and should) be both super useful and super beautiful.

And we think we’ve hit on a magic formula.

The structural framework of this designer day bed is made entirely from hardwood.  This makes it very tough, and by exposing the entire structure, we’ve made it beautiful too, with a slated support.

The day bed seat/cushion is 2 meters long and just under 1 meter wide. What does this mean?  That unless you are a professional basket ball player, you’ll be able to lie down on this day bed and have plenty of room to do so.  If you are a giant though, just tell us, and we’ll make it even longer for you.  The slatted framework design caters for this without any side effects.

Where can it be used?

The Aploss day bed has been designed to not only live against a wall (or fit in between 2 walls).  It’s just as happy in the middle of a space, as it can be sat on from all directions.

This designer day bed also comes with a couple of additional options.  Your selection here will most likely determine where it will live.  What are the options?

Firstly, you can have a separate cushion added to one side of the daybed.  This cushion can act as either an armrest or headrest if you’re lying down.  If you really want, you can even have a separate cushion added to both sides of the daybed.  This isn’t ideal for lying down, but it will give it a more symmetrical feel if that’s what you prefer.  If you would like this double sided version, please contact us directly and we’ll be more than happy to accomodate.

Additionally, you can also have this contemporary day bed with additional side tables.  These side tables are fully manoeuvrable and are fitted with special Italian designed and made nylon castors from “Rotola“.  The side tables are “C” shaped, thus allowing them to be moved to any place along the full length of the day bed.  This would not be possible if they were closed units, as they would hit the legs of the day bed if pushed too far.  Perfect as drink holders or somewhere to place your book, notepad, or devices.  You will definitely find ample things to put on these tables.

What about the workplace?

Yes, that’s just the thing about this contemporary design.  This day bed is perfectly suited to offices as well as break out areas.  The all round access to the bench seat, as well as the functionality of the armrest as well as the moveable trolleys adds that extra functionality which makes them perfect for the work setting.  Ideal for impromptu meetings, as well as client waiting areas where notes can be taken.  The versatility of this day bed design is vast, and we are very proud of it.
