Description

Here is our modern interpretation of the classic Steamer travelling trunk from years gone by.  However, our Kamara Storage Trunk is not for travel.  It has been purposely designed to cater for special types of important storage.

As some of you are aware, one of our PodMarket directors (Fiona McKenzie) is also a barrister.  In fact she is still a practising member of the Victorian Bar.  Goodness knows how she finds the time to excel within so many fields.  But Fiona is one of a kind and blessed with amazing skills.

Consequently, if there’s one thing we understand, it’s that barristers, solicitors and judges (as well as many other high-end professionals) have particular kinds of storage needs to securely house their folders, briefs and files, both within their chambers or offices and at home.  Enter the Kamara Storage Trunk.

Why bother? you may ask.  Let us explain….

We are fully aware that the majority of offices and chambers will already have standard, in-built, static cabinetry with basic shelving which is either exposed or ‘hidden’ behind doors.  And, well, that’s about it.  Now as far as we’re concerned, such fixed pieces fall within the domain of standard joinery and commercial installation.  There’s nothing new with this form of storage.  It’s predictable and pretty useful.

However, many professionals who work within these spaces require different types of storage options.  One size doesn’t fit all.  Some files and folders need to be easily accessible from your desk, rather than over in the corner on a fixed bookshelf.  So you might have them on your desk, on chairs, or even the floor.  But when a client comes, you need to store them behind closed doors.  Doing that quickly would be nice.

And there’s always the issue of having to move chambers or offices from time to time.  It’s not practical to take away all of that fixed shelving.  Investing in a movable piece or two makes sense.

Not to mention the aesthetic limitations of inbuilt shelving.  Long hours spent at work can be improved if we have a beautiful artwork on the wall.  In the same way, a handsome piece of furniture can be better than staring at stock-standard shelving for inspiration.

Surely there has to be something different available – something that looks good while being versatile and functional?

And now there is.  Our Kamara Storage Trunk units are freestanding and not in-built, meaning you can easily take them with you when you decide to move offices or chambers or even work from home.  They also allow you to move them within arm’s reach if there are a number of folders that you need to consistently have close by.  However, they are also able to be closed up, locked tight, and pushed right up against any wall or corner to be entirely out of the way.

The storage trunks are cleverly designed re their opening and closing too.  They do not open like traditional doors do.  Instead they pivot open right in the middle of the trunk, meaning each side need only be half the width of a traditional storage system.  We have also ensured that they are lockable units, giving you greater piece of mind for those special files which need to remain under lock and key.  And their appearance can also be varied quite dramatically via the selection of the external timber and the special feature coloured fibreglass panels on the front and back of each unit.  These fibreglass panels are made in Los Angeles, and add a textured depth to these trunks which is not often seen in storage furniture.  In fact they are the exact same composition of the famed Eames fiberglass chairs (from Modernica).  There are over 30 colours to choose from, and they can differ from front to back as desired.  Please contact us regarding your options here.

And there’s one more thing we have thought of.  We know that many professionals work extremely long hours and often have engagements to attend immediately after work.  So we can also configure the Kamara Storage Trunk to house clothing, instead of folders and files as the situation demands.  We can replace the shelves with brackets that accept coat hangers and clothes.  So now you can have a closed, lockable, stylish piece of furniture with you at the office, to house that casual outfit, a second business suit or dinner wear as the situation arises.  Still as versatile and beautiful, but with a totally different function in mind.

Sustainability

Sustainability is our essence, not just a tag line.
Good Design is sustainable. Minimal materials, cleverly put together, avoiding unnecessary production and waste. Well crafted designs that last a long time, because if you buy cheap you pay twice, and so does the environment.

Sustainability is about health, avoiding bad chemicals, using non-toxic materials.  Choice of materials is important. We prefer natural fibres in our fabrics. Wools, cottons, linens, and leather.  Timber is a great choice for sustainable outcomes. Forests are good for our environment, and timber production has many eco-benefits. We prefer timbers that are properly harvested using sustainable forestry practices, and timbers that last. We use glass, or metal when that’s what the item needs to be beautiful, or functional, or to last a long time. That’s part of a sustainable outcome too.
